The organizers of the first radio stations in the late 1920s, broadcasting in the United States were two dominating companies: Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) and the National Broadcasting Company (NBC). Before joining NBC in 1926, the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) had acquired WEAF, a radio AT&T for the City of New York, which later was renamed as WNBC and is currently WFAN, a station owned by CBS. It Convention with WEAF a loosely organized system that fed programming to other stations in the northeastern US RCA, before the acquisition of WEAF group in mid-1926, had previously owned one second such group, WJZ in New York as the main station (purchased by RCA in 1923 from Westinghouse Electric). Consequently, the two RCA programming services, the NBC Red Network (Red Red) and the NBC Blue Network (Blue Red), were founded. Legend has it that the color designations originated from the color of the studs used by early to designate affiliates WEAF and WJZ engineers.
